About the Class

It turned out to be an amazing group. The instructor is excellent. She demonstrated professionalism and kindness. The group of teachers in the class was excellent too. I learned to use several new technologies which will enrich my classes and make them more attractive for students. I will definitely tell all my colleagues at work about this amazing class. I am also planning to take more courses with Abromitis.
Middle School Spanish Teacher, Forest Grove, Oregon

This class was very challenging to me as someone who has been out of the "other side" of the classroom for many years. However, I feel a great sense of pride for my accomplishments. It has helped me refocus on my teaching strategies as well as better understand the learning styles of my students. I have had terrific feedback from my instructors regarding each and every assignment. Overall, I feel good about teaching again as a lot of what I've learned in this class has helped confirm my ideas about how my students learn and what I can do to improve my strategies for teaching.
7th grade Science teacher, Sandy, Utah

I really enjoyed the activities centering around application of the theory--designing a unit of study and reevaluating it for each major aspect--learning theory, learning styles, instructional strategies, evaluation. Why? Because all the theory in the world isn't useful if I cannot apply it to what I do.
Director of Community College Online Program, Nebraska

The peer feedback process was one of the best components of this course. I felt great support and insight from all the class members--a great community. I was a little nervous about on-line learning prior to this class. I didn't know how communication without seeing people would work, but it has been wonderful!
5th grade teacher, Moroni, Utah

I am writing to let you know that what I learned and did in the Learning Theories course really helped me with the Instructional Design course that I am just finishing. I was able to use the idea that I came up with (the unit of study) for your course to build on for this one. The learning theories knowledge and readings were helpful as I prepared parts of the Instructional Design. Given that your class was the very first on line course that I have ever taken, it really prepared me for this second one. So, just another thank you.
6th grade teacher, Port Orchard, Washington

This course models alternative education principles in being performance based rather than by taking objective tests. It requires you to apply what you are learning.
9-12th Math and Science teacher, Port Olympia, Washington

About the Instructors

Thanks for all of your assistance and hard work. This has been a very useful class to have taken at this point in my life. I was especially reminded of that fact when I had to take yet another mandated training yesterday that ate up my time but didn't offer the same sort of practical applications I found in your course.
4th Grade Teacher, Portland, Oregon, March 2011

Thank you for all the kind words, and all of your guidance and support throughout this course. I have learned so much over this term, and I think the most important being the confidence to take risks and try new things. It was hard to get back in to 'student' mode, but I tried my hardest. Thanks again for everything!
2nd Year Teacher, International School, Doha, Qatar, March 2011

The thing that I have liked the most about the class is the instructors. They have responded quickly and with important information. They understand the material and they understand the demands that are placed on us the students. They have good and positive feedback with a lot of encouragement to do better.
Math, Science, Physical Education teacher, Altamont, Utah

The information and the skills that I am learning have been the most useful for me. However, specific immediate feedback is awesome. Usually within a few hours I have feedback on an assignment that I have turned in to my instructors. ... I have been thoroughly impressed with my instructors and their experience and expertise.
6th grade teacher, Elmo, Utah

I have really liked how the instructors have been helpful in all that I have done by either giving positive feedback or extra assistance where needed. I also appreciate how the instructors get back in a very timely matter.
1st grade teacher, Syracuse, Utah

The instructor did an exceptional job at managing the activities and students in this class. I can only imagine the load of emails that she received and promptly sorted! Your dedication to making this run smoothly was noticed and appreciated.
9-12th Math and Science teacher, Port Olympia, Washington

The instructor has been wonderful! The dialog between class members has been superb and very supportive. The readings and activities have been pertinent to my career and very informative. The class was just great in all aspects!
5th grade teacher, Moroni, Utah

The instructor has been quite a mentor to me. She has read well between the lines of my written responses and has elicited from me what I have learned but not always stated properly. Her feedback has been very helpful for me to focus on my "deep" thoughts about how learning occurs and how I can better implement my instruction.
7th grade Science teacher, Sandy, Utah

About the Materials

The material is concrete and realistic, I have enjoyed the activities and readings. I find myself thinking of how I will improve each class that I teach.
Child Development and Algebra teacher, Sandy, Utah

This course has been set up, in my opinion, perfectly. I know exactly what reading assignments I have, I know what activities I have to complete, and I know when my projects are due. The web site is so functional.
6th grade teacher, Elmo, Utah

The readings get right to the point, there is not a lot of extra stuff. The videos were fun to watch to see how other teachers have
implemented the topics. I liked working as a team on some of the projects.
1st grade teacher, Syracuse, Utah

The assigned readings were extremely informative. I had not read much brain research in the past and especially enjoyed starting off with those articles. I found the video presentations a wonderful representation of the information we were studying. Here I could see how other teachers presented the concepts we were studying, plus print out lesson plans that I can use in my instruction.
5th grade teacher, Moroni, Utah

The methods of evaluation were authentic and required higher level thinking.
9-12th Math and Science teacher, Port Olympia, Washington

Asynchronous Online Learning

Because of the online/work from home nature of the course one of the unforeseen benefits has been the time to reflect. I believe that I have internalized more because I can step away several times while I am working and think about the meaning of what I have just read.
Child Development and Algebra teacher, Sandy, Utah

I also like being able to do the work and learn on my schedule, yet I still have structure in the definite date a project is due. The long distance discussions are excellent, for you can state your complete opinion without being interrupted and then get feedback.
Math teacher, Colorado Springs, Colorado

I like the flexibility and convenience of the schedule. I can work on it when I have time and when I can focus on the work. ...I like reading other students' comments and activity proposals. It gives me a new perspective, and I think that since we communicate in written form through email, it forces us to share more than we might in a live discussion in a traditional class.
English teacher, Raymond, Washington

The convenience of taking an online course is irreplaceable. I also believe that this course required me to put more effort in on a consistent basis.
9-12th Math and Science teacher, Port Olympia, Washington
